These days

These days I've been . . .

picking raspberries and making jam (raspberry alone, with rhubarb, with Cointreau) and sauce (raspberry with chocolate liqueur—so good on ice cream).

loving Elizabeth's belly laughs

smiling at Kathleen making Elizabeth laugh

struggling with a 2 1/2 year old's tantrums

chipping away at weeding the garden

pretending I have the summer off (dreading my next piece of work coming in this week)

enjoying garden meals (even if they are from a friend's garden, not my own)

watching Elizabeth getting ready to crawl (may be a while yet, but she's practicing)

turning watering the garden (a chore I usually hate) into a mediation of sorts

waiting for the red dahlias to pop in Henry's garden

remembering having Henry out with us, oxygen tank in the bottom of the stroller, while we worked in the garden

eating drippy homemade popsicles outside

sorting and cleaning and starting projects and making messes

staying up too late to enjoy the quiet.

What have you been up to these days?

  1. Not any of those things, damn winter! Mostly just gestating. Trying to entertain a toddler when I feel as if I'm running at about 30 per cent. Dreading August. Looking forward to August.
    That about sums it up.
I wish I could come visit for a week.

  2. Everything and nothing, which is what summer is for, right?

  3. Mary Beth, that sounds about right. I'm just trying to fit in more nothing—and all the everything I really want to do.

Sal, definitely thinking of you doubly as August approaches.

  4. Belly laughs are great! Best of luck with the gardening and the red dahlias. I'm hoping to mulch my flower bed in the next couple of weeks and add some more lavender plants.

    Thinking of you.

  5. We are mainly holed up anywhere there is AC right now. Did some family swimming at the city pool last night, which was fun though. I also stay up too late enjoying the quiet, or getting some freelancing done.
